Chapada Diamantina
Chapada Diamantina is in the state of Bahia and is one of the main ecotourism and adventure tourism destinations in Brazil. With an average altitude of between 800 and 1,200m above sea level, it is the perfect destination at any time of the year.
The Chapada Diamantina National Park has several options of natural attractions, such as the highest mountains in the northeast, waterfalls, natural pools, canyons, caves, the 5th largest cave in Brazil and the Paraguaçu, Jacuípe and Das Contas rivers sources.
The city of Lençóis is the gateway to the park, but the national park region is made up of 24 municipalities and has an area of 1520km², bordered by Morro Pai Inácio to the north and Buracão Waterfall to the south.
The cities that surround the National Park abound in colonial architecture buildings, living reminders of the richness of the diamond cycle that made Brazil the world’s leading producer in the early 20th century. Diamantina means “bright as diamond.” The trails opened by prospectors are now covered by trekking enthusiasts from all over the world. It is still possible to find old prospectors who knew the time when riches flowed from the mountains.
